Should You Take Children To A Funeral?
Category : Uncategorised
There is no right or wrong answer to this question, simply things to think about in coming to your own decision.
If children know what is happening then they should be able to make their own decision. Youngsters, including babies, are often kept out of the service due to their potential noise. Be prepared to take children who are there out, if the distress becomes too much. It’s usually a good idea to have someone who the children know and trust, but who don’t mind missing some of the funeral if they have to take children out, on hand to help. In-laws on the other side are good for this, or friends of the family.
Children understand more than we give them credit for so providing them with honest information in a simple form helps them understand the ins and outs, and process their emotions. Being involved in a funeral lets them look back later in life and remember.
